H D Wannabees

I don't think it matters. If the bike suits the guy and/or his budget, who cares what people think? On the other hand, if the guy is dressed head-to-toe in Harley leathers with the orange stripe and the Bar and Shield as big as a road sign across his back, riding a Kawi, I'd say he's got "issues". :s

You said a mouthfull there TIGG, all of it the way it should be,bikers are bikers, whatever thier steed,I treat them all as I would like them to treat me ie; with respect for who I am,not what I choose to ride.

It doesn't matter what people ride. Just ride and enjoy yourself. However, I work with a guy that has a Yamaha and he tries his best to make it look and sound like a Harley and will even wear Harley clothing. If you want a Harley that bad just go and buy one. He has spent more money on trying to make this Yamaha look like a Harley then it would have cost him to go and buy the real thing. I always give him a hard time and the other guys at work that ride have started calling his bike a Hardly Davidson. I think you should be proud and enjoy whatever bike you ride no matter what it is.

A harley is a harley. And there are those who will only wish to own one and buy a knock off. Ane then there is real hd riders.

I dont think thats a fair statement.
Yes I wish I had a HD back in 98, but I couldnt afford to buy a new HD for $15,000 to $ 20,000 and a used one was not an option.

So I bought a new HONDA knock off for $8,000. I cant help it if HONDA or anyone else makes them like that. I liked the look and the price range was right.

I think it arrogant to say :
"then there is real hd riders"
What makes you think only HD riders are real and others are not??
Anyone that rides is a real rider in my eyes.

Dittos Glider.
Do we really want to fall into this.... You can go over to other forums and read the "VS" threads where everyone comes off sounding like little kids on the school playground. Where they sit around telling each other how tough they are and how their brand is the best and I am talking about Harley guys as well as the Metric guys. This forum has always been above that "poser" ,"wannabe", and" mines better than yours stuff". If you search the forums you can find a thread where members here recommended to another member that his son buy a VTX. It seems to me that the general consensus here is that it doesn't matter what everyone else rides or thinks only that you ride. You are in a brotherhood no matter what brand you are on. Harleys are our brand because they are what we want from a bike . From performance to styling they fit our needs. If anyone else has a problem with that then that is just what it is ......their problem . Leave it for them to deal with.

Don't want to ruffle anyones feathers it's just how I see it

Very well stated Tigg. When's the last time someone knocked someone else about the car they drive or the shoes they wear etc, why then must it be a topic of discussion to knock what someone else rides? I think is basically comes down to insecurity on their own part. :s

I see on other forums posts about the fingerless gloves and the "back less" chaps (another way of saying it) and wonder what type of life they must have to have to post something like that.

Luckily here we can do something about those posts :D

Glider........I agree
After riding for over 45 years I can say I've heard quite a bit alone these lines starting with the 750 Honda in ’69 and shortly thereafter the 900KZ. It never gets any better in fact worse with all the new bikes on the market. I personally don't care. I drive a Chevy truck and the wife insists on a Subaru….No biggee
I still have and ride my first putt ('57 FLH) that I bought in '63 as a basket case... I still say if half the people currently riding a HD had to kick start a bike with a Zenith or Bendix carb, manually change the advance and use a police shifter they’d be riding something else, if at all???????????????

I don't give a wit what the other guys rides. It's his money and none of my business how he spends it. However: Do you think if a guy is riding a Jap Cruiser which is a Harley imitation so to speak. This party is hoping folk will think he/she is really riding an H D?

Case in point I used to work with a gent who had a kawasaki cruiser type. He had put drag pipes on it to maker it louder. One day after work in the parking Lot he is getting ready to ride it home and another party comes up to him and says, "Johnny, I didn't know you had a Harley?" Johnny was NOT on a Harley but did not tell this man that in fact his cycle was a kawl. Instead his silence led the man to believe it was a Harley (which I thought was rather shallow)...Hence I do think some folk are hoping other motorist think they are on a Harley when they really are not. But then I'm not a mind reader.

With all due respect; So what! Aren't there more important things to worry about than something like this?

What someone rides is as irrelevant as the colour of their skin.
We are all Brothers under the sun, Riders under the wind.

For me I waited along time for my bike and there was no substitute. I love Harley's, I love the sound, the feel the ride and the looks. Harley Davidson is a American Icon, IMO there is no substitute. But I don't care what another guy rides, it is his choice what he buys, it is just like anything else, there is something that appeals to everyone out there, if there were only one brand of anything, this would be a boring place. I take a ride with a couple of guys that have Vulcan's and V Stars and we have a good time riding, but guess what bike gets the attention :s..
