first I would consult your state statutes that govern motor vehicles ,In the state of Florida it is against the law to have your handle bars ,in your case "ape hangers" can not be any higher than the riders shoulders.

Don't hack up the wiring harness get the right connectors, It will save you a lot time and trouble in the future.

Make sure the bars fit your anatomy. This should be your primary concearn as it will be much more enjoyable to ride your machine if the fit it right.

I liked view of the original mini apes, but changed them after my initial ride to fat boy handle bars because it did not feel right to ride with them.

So my advice, try them both and see which you like best.

I put a set of 18 inch apes on my Heritage Springer,not only were they too tall,when you made a hard turn you almost hit yourself in the face from whichever way you were turning.I should have went with a 16 or smaller to begin with.I did purchase the bars from Hill Country Customs.If you need any info about them,service,etc.let me know.Was'nt a very plesent experince.
