I have a 2003 flhr. Just today the starter sounds like it is just spinning. It happened before about 2 years ago. We replaced the starter drive and the gear that is around the clutch pack. We put high torque parts in. Any advice on what could be causing this to happen repeatedly? The time before it seemed like it would do it a couple times then it would start fine for a while. After time it just got worse, so we replaced it. This time there were no signs that anything was wrong. Going to lunch at work and hit the starter button and just got a whinning noise. Each time it would engage on the second try and start. Am I to the point that I need a whole new starter? If that is the case that would be okay just very frustrated. By the way I just changed the primary fluid and ther was a minute amount of shavings on the magnet. To me it didn't seem to be very much at all, but didn't notice any shavings in the pan when oil was drained.
By the way there was a small amount of shavings on the magnet when I changed the primary oil a couple of weeks ago. It didn't seem that it was very much and I just figured that it might be because of the new parts that were installed.
