softtail speedometer

For your mileage question, take a picture of your old speedo next to the vin number on the bike before you disconnect it. Date the picture and keep it with your bike records. This will satisfy the question if it is asked. As to the second question, ??? I have read and heard that it all will work as usual, but I don't know first hand. :)

The Dealer's reference to the bike being 10 years old and it being OK that the mileage is zero is because in many States the odometer miles after 10 years do not have to be reported on the sale of the bike. If the bike is less than 10 years and the mileage can't be accurately measured due to a failure of the speedo then the vehicle is TMU (true mileage unknown) and you lose value because of it. After 10 years the mileage is less important to the State but maybe it is still important to a potential buyer.

On the install question... If they said it was plug and play, I would tend to agree but I wonder if they do it can they run it up to match your mileage. I have read that on the Dakota Digital gauges that they can be set to current bike miles when they are installed but Dakota must do it and it will cost an extra $20.

Thanks both of you for your replys. Im not really too concerned about the odometer reading. I will however, keep the old mileage - picture idea is great. I did contact the DMV here and they said NO - the mileage does not matter on a 10+ year old bike.

I think I will just use my motor manual and do the install myself and save that 50-100 dollars.

Thanks again
Bill

I have the the combo speedo/tach Part Number 70900070A It cost $299 works great very happy with it comes with many options check it out you will not be disappointed

Just added the same speedo/tach to my 04 Heritage Softail this weekend. Easy to program and looks great. Still changing color combos, but that will be done soon. So far, I like the looks and additional readouts. :newsmile106:

So far, new speedo / tach is great. It comes with a clock setting, but no instructions as to how you set it. :bigsmiley19: Does anyone know how to set the clock?

Just a follow-up here......... I installed the drag specialists speedo and all seems to be just fine. speedo works, odometer works, all lights are working. The odometer came in at zero as expected - no problem for me. AND if I do sell it I will have the old original speedo with ~50K miles on it for THEIR information.
case closed. :s thanks to all for all your help here...

Bill
