softtail speedometer

I have been needing a speedometer for awhile now (see previous posts) kept putting it off tho cuz the HD replacement was near $400 -- well, I see on J&P cycles they offer a replacement for ~$190. It appears the same as my original but without the "Harley Davidson" near the bottom of the face.
My question is this -- I went to HD website and they dont seem to have the original replacement but only the speedo/tack combination model for around $400. Dont they make a speedometer withOUT the tack for less money???

Bill, most of what I have seen on the H-D website is nice to haves. If you want original replacement parts you would need to ask your local dealer . They should have a speedo for your softail.

Thanks for the reply. I have inquired at two diff HD dealerships and both said they had replacement for ~$375-$400 or so. I saw one on display had one dealer it had both MPH and RPM and was priced the same. Thus my question. HD should sell a speedo without the tack for less than $375 - I would think anyway. The JP one for $190 is looking pretty good to me. Almost half price.

Have you tried ebay?

I noticed there's one for sale right now-PART# 67033-08-with 1828 miles on it;starting bid $50.
This baby might not fit your bike, but with a bit of searching you could easily find what you want.

I also punched in 67033-99a speedo on ebay-and got quite a number of hits.

Have a look.

You are welcome for the site. I found it right here on HDTALKING. I use it a lot. I see that they went back to the original theme though. For a few months you could go back to about 1948 models. I liked it better then. Maybe it's under maintenance.

I have the the combo speedo/tach Part Number 70900070A It cost $299 works great very happy with it comes with many options check it out you will not be disappointed

Question for all yall -- I can buy a new aftermarket speedometer and it will (obiviously) read "0" miles and that will be "OK" per the Harley Davidson Dealership because my bike is over 10 years old. Anyone ever dealt with this vs mileage required by DMV? Just doesn't sound right to me. Just seeking your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks
Bill

OK -- I ordered the DRAG SPECIALISTS replacement speedometer from a HD Dealership. They will install it for ~$50, but said it was a simple 'plug n play' speedo and I could do it myself.

Question is would I have to 'marry' it in any way to any thing for it to work properly??? Im not the electrical guru here :) OR is it really a simple install and plug in job and my turn signals will self cancel and my odometer will also work...... along with all the lights on speedo????

Thanks
Bill
