I agree with everyone else so I just have two specific suggestions:

1. There's a nice Best Western with comfy rooms, free breakfast, hot tub, and right next door to a great sports bar. Great rates if you sign up for their Ride Rewards program.

Best Western Hotels

2. Mad Maps sells great, foldable, laminated, water proof maps with lots of suggested rides in this region and enough detail to plan your own rides.

Finally, be sure to let us know when the dates are finalized - you never know who might want to join you!

I've talked to more than one rider over the years who've done the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. Parkway starts in Cherokee, NC and opinion is that's the best end of of that road to ride. I'd try to put a few miles on the odo while in the area. I've taken it up to Boone, NC. It's a fine fine ride.

I agree. I rode it north to south last summer and it totally changes its personality once you cross into North Carolina. North end is rolling hills alternating with fields. South end is mountains! Especially noticeable when you jump off the BRP onto any of the side access roads.

If you ride the BR Parkway and/or stay in the Asheville area, I'd recommend visiting the Crafts Center just off the Parkway near Asheville. Lots of neat stuff, some pretty pricey though, free admission, stay as long or as short a time as you wish.

I have a mountain home in Waynesville, it's a couple of miles from Maggie. Be sure to eat at Joey's Pancake House, it's great. We go up there alot from Atlanta. Be sure to post when you will be there. Maybe we could meet up for a ride.

Check this place out for some great maps. These are smaller than your regular map.

That area is beautiful. Gatlinburg is my tromping ground but I would stay away during peak season, especially from Pigeon Forge dirty place. May is a good time and early June.

Wheels through time museum, take a day and go on the Great Smokey Mountains Railroad trip. great roads to ride, the dragon, cherahola skyway, highway 64, etc etc. no bad roads really. Great mom and pop places to eat. Casino in Cherokee although I didn't care for it since it's all electronic, something wrong about a casino with no cards. Over the mountains there's pigeon ford, dollywood. it's a tourist mecca. You can ride all day, shop all day, sightsee all day or stay in any of the motorcycle friendly resorts and drink all day. It's a great area.

You won't be disappointed regardless of which direction you ride out of Maggie Valley. Enjoy this region, it is spectacular.
