Wanted To Keep It Quiet

Just can't. I am going to tour Jay Leno's Garage Monday the 18th. I am like a little kid in a candy store. I can't wait to see all those classics and special bikes. The cars will be nice too. Unfortunately, the tour is only for two hours.

How I got to go is that the tour was donated to my grandaughters school for sports equipment and my daughter went to the auction to raise money. She had heard me talking to my son in law about Jay's garage and kept bidding until she won. Then she gave the tour to me and son in law as Christmas present. We are both excited. Not many get in there other than the on the website. The only bummer is that on the sheet, it says no cameras or video equipment. Rats.
Another whole week to go. :)

HOW COOL IS THAT? You gotta sneak a few pics.......just kidding. Let us know what he's hiding in there.

congrats!

I can't remember being this excited about something. I already told my son in law to have his cell phone camera ready to go as we leave. They think I am not going to get my picture taken in a place like that, ha.

I would love to take his Brough Superior or his WR out for a short spin, just to keep the dust off it. I'll bet he will let me, yeah right. :rofl

I'll let you all know after next monday how the tour was and any details I can come up with.

VERY COOL! Thats something that most all my friends would sell thier first born to get to expierence! Have fun!!!!! :s

Just to follow up. It was great. I could have lived with out the monsoon rains, but that garage is awesome. I had no idea how big it is. 600k feet in four buildings. Sort of in sections of classics, sporty cars, really old antiques and the shop section was really set up well, they have a water jet table they can cut out parts on like on OCC, but a lot bigger, car lifts, paint spray booth, everything you could ever need.
160 motorcycles and right at 250 cars in there. Some of them I never heard of before. Jet bikes, jet cars, steam cars, electric cars I was bug eyed. Especially when I noticed they were mostly all registered and current. How muc does that cost? Some of the elaborate newer cars, Bugattis and such were registered in Massachusetts. I asked why and was told by the guy that gave us the tour that they would not meet California's smog laws. Interesting.
The gent that gave us the tour said he had worked there 21 years, another surprise. I had only heard of the place a couple years ago. His job there was to round up parts across the USA and the world for the cars undergoing resto. He was curious as how we had managed to get a tour of the place and that not many do that Jay himself doesn't escort. Jay was not there. He said Jay doesn't come in on days he works on the show, but he comes in afterwards, goes to a set up they have there that looks like a soda fountain from an old Walgreens store and makes himself a bite to eat and works late at night on his projects.
Besides the vehicles the walls are plastered with memorabilia and things that would be very collectible and antique. Two and a half hours is no where enough time to take everything in, that is for sure. I loved the place.
The other part of the deal was guest seating at the taping of the show. That was interesting too. Jay came out before the show in his regular clothes of denim and talked to the audience about mostly the issue of time changes and Conan having to give back the slot to Jay. He was very down to earth about it and you can see that he has a good head on his shoulders and admitted he doesn't use an agent or a manager. He has business sense.
Ringo performed and they had a gal named Emily Blount on. It was alright, but nothing close to the tour of the garage. They really enforced the no cameras, so I have no pictures, but I did get a cup from Jays Garage. My only momento other than my memory of the place. :)

thats all you need :)

Hobbit, you are so right. I'll be staring at the lining on the top of that pine box a long time and this memory will give me something to think about. :D

I hope some of you get to see the collection. Hobbit would enjoy Jay's collection of a lot of English and some Italian bikes. He must have at least 8 Vincents, two of which are Black Shadows. Plenty of Harleys too, some working and un restored like a JD that looks like it will be a project, but I was told it runs great. Electric bikes and of course the jet bike. It is all awesome. I don't want to keep runnin' on. I am not trying to rub it in. Hopefully when his show is all done, he actually asked to retire do to the time slot issue and NBC would hold him to his contract, he could get more of the vehicles he has restored and buy up some more of them. It is unique that it is really a garage and not a museum. :)
