Leaning the Bike?

Thanks to this forum, I am taking ever more interest into tinkering with my bike.

I would like to check the underside but I am yet to get a jack.
This might be an odd question but how far can you lean the bike to look underneath before various fluids start to leak, and can it be leant to either side?

Clearly it would be gently supported to avoid damage.

You can go quite a way and not have any leaking fluids, the problem is more weight transfer than fluids that once it goes so far it wants to continue on it's own to the ground.:s
