How do i find the color code on my softtail

I have a 2001 softtail Deuce. I am looking to custom paint some parts on the bike to match the stock paint scheme. (front brake mount, clutch mount, possibly forward peg brackets, ect.) Any other idea's??
But my reason for this post, is that i am wondering if there is a place on the bike where the paint code exsists? I believe the color is Luxory Red, no idea of the code, so i can order paint and spray it myself. Also, does any one know what color primer they use from the factory? Any thing else i should take into comsideration when trying to match the paint?? Thanks to all that respond, I will keep you posted on my progress.

The best way to match is take it by any paint store, i,e, paint shop, most have a camera now that can match paint including the fade that may have occured!:cheers

Very valid question when dealing with red "what color primer".Rule of thumb is black or white.Red is very transparent, a bright red is usualy obtained with a white or light grey sealer.A darker red/burgandy usualy is achieved with a dark sealer. Some reds cover better than others, but as it is the most expensive color to buy you are better off doing your research beforehand.

PPG is the way to go IMO.glider provided you with the good info.Call Central in Worcester and ask for Pudge. He rides and knows Harley codes. His computer has saved me many a dollar over the years. You will want a pint of your color in DBC {reduced 1 to 1 with 870 reducer},A quart of 2001 clear {smallest size they sell, reduced 3 to 1 with 61 hardener then 10 percent 870 reducer}, a bullett of 61 hardener and a gallon of 870 reducer. Then you'll need laquer thinner to clean your gun,tac clothe,Quart of 271 primer {again smallest they sell} a bullett of hardener for the primer..reduced 3 to 1,some handy mixing cups with the 3 to 1 ratios already on the cup..The good news is they throw the sticks and strainers in free at this point {if you remember to ask}.

After all this Pudge may well tell you his computer is recomending a white/black drop coat meaning youll need at least a 1/2 pint of that color.Good news is its also reduced with the 870 from above.

This stuffs not cheep.Id guess the minimal list I provided you from above puts you in the $300 range. There should be a local PPG dealer in your area.If you know a bodyman he can get you a discount using his shop name..Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks for the info. When it boils down to cost, i quess it is cheper to replace the stock parts with chrome rather than custom paint them with factory paint. Probally why you see all the chrome and less custom paint.
IN MY MIND, A CUSTOM PAINTED BIKE IS HOTTER THAN A CHROMED OUT ONE. But i also look at my Deuce/Bike as a way of expressing myself and a kind of art project.
Thanks again for the reply's.:newsmile030:
