Good deal modifying the lid...when you hit strong low bass notes, is the cone movement reasonably controlled. Sometimes you can "port" a small opening to allow the cone to move a bit more, that is what a "tuned port" bass reflex speaker does...allows more cone movement for slight better mid and low frequency response...but increases the chances of damaging the speaker if you try to drive a lot of power into it.:s
