My generator was not working,I did the positive to the post to recharge it,now it is working, went about 5 miles came back and the generator is real hot and was smoking a little, anyone know how to fix it,thanks,it is on a 1973 custom rigid chopper with an iron head.it has one of those aftermarket ends on it with the red and green light that is the part that was smoking, but the whole generator was super hot.

Check the battery voltage with a meter running, it may be cooking the battery.

A bad regulator would do that.
