I started an earlier post about your thoughts on group riding, what to look out for and what-not. All of you offered great information about what to expect in participating in a group ride.

I still haven't decided if I like riding in such large groups! I went on a 250+ mile endurance ride before Thanksgiving. It was AMAZING to be a part of 175 bikes on the road. But it was also dangerous.

Leaving planned stops was like being in a motorcycle rodeo with everyone wanting to leave at the same time from different areas of the parking lot (or gas station). There were also guys blowing thru stop signs to keep the pack going and together. I don't think riders should be blowing thru intersections just because they are on a group ride.

It is still thrilling to ride in with 175 bikes -- so I'm still undecided about it all. It certainly takes a lot more concentration to ride in a pack like that!

Group riding can be alot of fun and as you stated very dangerous,A ride consisting of over a hundred bikes should be police escorted as well.If it is not use your own judgement on blowing through intersections if you slam on your brakes there could be a huge pileup behind you,and never ride side by side unless you are familiar with the rider next to you always try to stager the bikes to help reduce the chance of an accident. And most of all if you see a rider driving like an idiot stay as far from them as possible.

I agree with you about group rides. They can be fun if you are with a group that is of size to not bunch up and play fender tag. I have been with groups that after the ride I will never ride with them again and others that i would be glad to ride with again.

I would rather ride with a group of 4 or 5, makes for more rideing and less smoke breaks, 8 to 10 bikes at the most.

Yeah group riding like in Sturgis1990 a night mare, lots of dinged fenders and angry bikers got to be aware and pay attention in front and behind you

Not everyone's cup of tea for sure. I agree, if you are riding with a bunch of boneheads that you don't know, look out. You really need safe rules to ride in a group and everyone needs to follow them. The rules make sense once you become familiar with them. But, if you are a person that does not like or want to go by the rules, you "should" stay away from other bikes because you are probably going to get hurt (physically as well as emotionally) and/or cause someone else in the group problems. It's really as simple as that. I enjoy riding by myself and I enjoy riding in (most) groups.

I like canoeing too. I have since I was about 5. There are rules for that too. If you want to ride in my canoe, there's rules for that too. If you don't want to follow the rules (I didn't make them but they make sense and I follow them) then you (and unfortunately I) will be swimming in short order. I only swim with a fellow canoeist once...

When I ride in a big groupe of it is on a benefit ride and it has been police escorted. I like just me and the wife, but do have a couple of friends that I do ride with some. But have a plan before we set out if we can.
