Some readers here have mentioned about the base gaskets on the cylinders needing replacement on evo engines.

It's a known fact that the cylinders grow or expand during warm up and if you ride the bike hard before a proper warm up, there's a good chance that you can expect seepage/leakage from the cylinder base gaskets if it's done on a regular basis. This was a weak area in the evo engines. As mentioned by Fisher here on the forum, it's best to machine the gasket surface if disassembly to replace the gaskets is in order.

I like to let the engine on evo's warm up at idle until you can feel a good amount of heat in the cylinders before riding, depending on the outside air temps, this could be a few minutes before riding and then ride conservatively until fully warmed up.
