Electronic Speedometer Pickup Values

I have a 98 Sportster 883 Hugger that the electronic speedo doesn't work. Can anyone tell me if there should be a resistance value on any of the three connections to it. There is a red, black and white wire. I have open resistance between any pair. Sounds like a bad sensor to me, just want to check in for sure before buying one. Thanks in advance for your helpful response...

The VSS on the trans is a magnetic pulse switch and as such will not show much resistance measured with a meter.

If your directionals are not self canceling any more, chances are the switch is bad. You usually find a bunch of fuzz on the inside of the switch which is what does the switch in.
