When going to start my bike your engine light comes on for a few seconds for the efi models then it should go off. Mine will go off then come back on a couple of seconds later and stay on for another 4-7 seconds before going off. If I start the bike while the light is on it will stay on the whole time so I have to wait those xtra seconds to start. How do I check the diagnostic code for this without having to go to the dealer. Also, I have experienced last week where I would lose elctrical when going to start and would have to mess with battery cables to get power back. Battery connection is snug and cleaned often, any ideas? Bike is 03'nightrain.

Bud has you covered with the code but the other problem you mention usually comes from a bad battery connection, either in need of cleaning or not tight enough. Possibility of a bad main breaker too.
