Automatic primary chain tensioner out of line

Replaced my primary chain tensioner and now it doesn't line up with the primary chain. If the primary chain is lined up 0 to 180 degrees on a Cartesian Plane front to back, the tensioner is lined up 0 to ~165 degrees front to back. Did I miss a spacer that need to be behind the front of the tensioner to make it run parallel with the primary chain?
