americade on lake george

A buddy and I are going up to Americade on Lake George in June, has anyone ever been? Any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated. We're leaving from Ma. maybe looking for a scenic route to take instead of all hiway.

Thanx

if you are in the western MA area, try RT22 all the way to RT4 to 109 to 9.Coming from CT, I pick up 22 a few miles before Austerlitz. I like to avoid RT90 and 87. Rooms at the village of L George are usually only booking 4 night stays...might find some willing too do less night early in the week (Mon and Tue??)....price is probably an average of $170 per night in the village..don't know anything about out of town places or camp grounds so I'm no helped with that. We always have a good time at L George..If you want to do any dinner boat cruises, book them as early as you can. They fill up quickly.hope some of this helps

We stayed at this one two years ago. Very nice. The cottage we had was a 2 bedroom, with 2 beds per room. The couch pulled out also.
They have a covered BBQ/picnic area and fire pit. The cottages have fireplaces. It's about 10 minutes north of the LG Village on the west side of the lake.

Make sure you do some riding. There are many great back roads. Lake Placid is only a couple of hours away cruising them. We leave LG around 8:30 and have lunch in L.Placid.

As many times as I've been to the Americade, I've not ridden the great roads all around L George area. I usually get there and the bike is parked until we leave for home. I'm missing out on a lot of great roads to ride. I think the reason I don't is because of the 'pushers'...I like to travel the back roads at or slightly above speed limit...just cruising and, I'd have to pull over a million times to let the racers go by. Even on the way up to Lake George, doing 5 or so over the limit, many other riders pass me like they're on a track. Last year, I was about to signal ( as I always do) to have me move to the right to let them pass..Just as I was about to do so, they passed me on both sides. Still, perhaps this year, I'll take a day trip around the area. Maybe wind my way to Ticonderoga which is, I think, about an hour North of L George.
I find the Expo show to be not worth my time or money. I didn't think there were great deals ( no better than just ordering something on line)...cost 10 bucks to enter the Expo show...I find it too crowded to really see anything anyway. I'll pass on that this year.

Great pics thanks for sharing them.

You're welcome. There are miles and miles of back roads, so have a ball.
A word of caution though. If you go out away from LG, and go thru small towns in NY and Vermont, make sure you follow the speed limit, make full stops, etc.
Those small town Barney Fife's will nail you if they can because they know you won't come back to fight it in court.
Four of us (those in the first picture) were going thru a small town with a speed limit of 25. The first two bikes went thru an intersection, two girls came out of a store on the corner and headed towards the crosswalk. The other guy and I stopped to let them cross. A cop pulled out of a gas station and stopped the first two guys. They each got a $200 ticket for not yeilding to pedestrians in a cross walk. Those girls were still 20 feet from the curb when they rode by. A totally bogus stop, but they know the riders wouldn't come back to fight it.

This is another place we've stayed. Very nice. 15 minutes from LG village on the east side of the lake. Very bike friendly.

I would have been livid if I had gotten a $200.00 ticket that way!! Totally bogus! That must have really put a damper on what must have otherwise been a great trip.

Americade is a great rally you should have a good time. For good info check this site Americade. Lots of great folks willing to help also many of the local places list available rooms on the site. If you can't get a room in the village (many are reserved a year in advance) check Warrensburg or Saratoga Springs. One of my favorites is Still Bay Resort only a few miles North of town on route 9n, the rooms are small but very clean and they have a great breakfast buffet included. The only downsides are the steep drive which is common to the lakeside and the fact that that road is darker than a pocket at night. Don't know yet if I'll make it this year, just too much going on then but it's a great time and a new venue this year with everything located in one area downtown should make it easy to park and walk to everything. I'm sure you have checked the Americade website for all the details and signed up in advance as there is quite a good discount and you can be sure to get your choice of tours etc as they do tend to sell out.

One thing I almost forgot STOCK PIPES, if you don't have them get them or be very careful. The NY cops use bikes as a revenue stream and have been targeting rallys, even Americade. For the last several years they have been setting up roadblocks on I 87 and other places and targeting bikes checking for anything they can find. DOT helmets, pipes with no EPA stamp and inspection stickers. A friend got stopped and had a hard time convincing them that in Maine we carry the inspection card with our license and don't have a sticker per se. If you think the Mass cops are tough, you aint seen nothing. I will say the local PD and sheriffs that work crowd and traffic control are a bunch of good guys and very helpful.
