98 sporster keeps idleing high

I have a 98 sportster that keeps idling high and when I stop I have a screwdriver that I turn the idle down with why does it keep doing that it didn't do it until I removed carb and took apart to clean the jets out

Was there a keeper or spring on the idle screw . It sounds like it is backing out while ridding.

No spring came out but I was told if I tightin the screw inside all the way it will do that

What type of carb. due you have, CV, S&S, or what?? The spring Fisherking is talking about is on the idle screw itself. It keeps tension on the screw so it won't back in or out.
