2007 FLHX, 31,000 mlies and roaring

It seems my bike is making a roaring noise at any speed. Clutch in or out, motor running or motor off, even in netural. I think it's comming from the trans or clutch. I can hear it if I roll the drive sprocket while the bike is on a stand with the rear tire off. so...... clutch or trans? I've been use SE oil and changing fluids every 5000 miles, just a few shards on the trans. mag. after the last oil change, nothing outragious. Oh yea it started the week after my warranty ran out!

Check the belt adjustment. Loose or tight will make a noise. Get that SE (syn3) oil out of the trans and put in some GEAR oil.

As Glider says, check the chain tension. Not sure if yours does, but if you have the auto chain adjuster, here is a tip that Glider posted in self-help:

If not, then it's the old-fashion way!!

If that doesn't take care of it, suggest ruling out the compensator nut backing off by opening the primary and checking.

Should be, it's an 07 with the self adjuster.

that's why i think it may be in trans or clutch hub bearings, it makes the roaring noise with the motor off. i guess i'm going to have to go into it.

Hope you mean when you turn the wheel and not when it's parked on the stand

Can you isolate if it's the wheel, belt or trans?
