1982 FXRS w/Barnett Clutch

The clutch has less than 15k and I have adjusted the cable. Even tighten the spring tensioning nuts evenly. Yet every once in awhile while releasing the clutch it just grabs. I'm talking only letting out maybe 1.5 -2 inches which causes the bike to surge forward. What is causing this? I haven't checked the clutch hub to see if the fingers are worn and that maybe why the clutch is hanging up. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to The Forum, is this a dry 4 speed set up? Complete release of the clutch plates is what the main problem was on early H D dry clutches Big Twin Tamer Clutch Insert | 620-685 | JP Cycles

It's a 5 speed rubber mount FXRS.

Your basket may be wobbling, check the alignment of the basket and the front sprocket. Also check the studs on the basket to make sure have do not have a groove in them. Did you change the steels when you did the clutches? If not. you may have one that's warped. Use a straight edge to verify they are ok.
