There are some discounted AMP CLAMP type meters...try Harbor Freight or Extech...they are not too bad and certainly higher currents can be read than standard 15-20A max range of most "series fed" analog and digital multi-meters. Of course your idea of having friends with tools is a good one. I am the local "JOLTS" in my neighborhood...LOL :s
