02 RK new battery won't hold charge

I have a 2002 RK, Carb, 24,000, original owner. Had the original battery till this year when the battery would not hold a charge. ALWAYS use a battery tender when home. I put in a new HD battery and after starting riding a few days battery does not seem to charge. ? Seems to come back OK from the BT but does not have enough to start the bike after two or three starts. Cleaned the connections and everything is tight. Any Ideas???
 
What kind of battery and what is the rating on it? You mentioned it was an HD battery.

Have you verified the charging rate of the system?
 
You first need to check that the charging system is working easiest way to do this is to measure the voltage across the battery terminals when the engine is running should be around 13 volts at idle and 14.5 volts at 2000 rpm

Did you charge the battery first when you installed it? Never assume a motorcycle battery is full charged when you first buy it, check to see you have 12.7 volts after charging
