I wish my My Fatboy did as well as your Duce.
I figure it does about 6 to 7000 max on rear.
But I do ride it harder than I do the Road glide
Quicker starts harder braking ect

Re: Tyre Wear

Hobbit,

Because of my respect for you I just went out and measured my tire depth. I have a tire depth gauge and do know how to use it. I have a little under 14000 miles on my Road Glide. The front tire has 4/16" (6.35mm) tread depth and the rear tire has 3/16" (4.76mm) tread depth. My Deuce needed tires changed at 9000 miles.

Re: Tyre Wear

I got 14500 km (9000mile) out of the rear on my Deuce,
The replacement tyre only got 100 km. Why only 100 km ?
Riding into a Service centre to get fuel I ran over a rusty spanner laying on the road, that I did not see and stuffed it, I was not very happy.

thats incredible 14K and still 6mm of tread thanks for that info, i am guessing the HD touring tire possibly has more tread from stock and is a hard compound or the UK roads are Ultra abrasivei know our new tires have approximately 7mm of tread when new

Does HD put the same tires on bikes old out side USA?
Mine has the Dunlap D403. that could make a big difference in milage.

Re: Tyre Wear

Interesting thread here guys, Smitty glad you told me to have another look here. Could be a lot to do with different riding styles and ambient temperatures. Hobbit's right about sports bikes, my last bike was a BMW K1200R and I wore out 3 rear tires in under 4000mls, I could gas it down a road and leave a large black strip for nearly 200yds. I think it was after the 3rd tyre that I decided to change the Beemer for something that would allow me to calm things down a bit. Bought the RKC and my only regret is that I didn't do this a few years ago, life is just so much more relaxed. I'll let you all know where the tread depth is when I return from Italy.

Re: Tyre Wear

blues i measured the tread on my 08 softail with 750 miles on the stock boots and almost fell over the front has 5mm and the rear 6mm the sporty lets not go there 04 883 with 4800miles rear 3.5mm and the front 2.4mm almost time for new rubber.
It has got to be road construction or thicker rubber on the tourers or at least harder wearing mind your US tire wear got me stumped with my Vstar as well guys were running 15K+ on the stockr rubber yet i would see 8.5K max before the handling and braking was severly affected and if they ran Metzeler they were getting better grip and longetivity its got me beat

Re: Tyre Wear

Stop by dealer today had a chat with shop forman.
this man has always been stright with me.
"riding style" He said they can tell each riders style by there tire wear. Quicker take offs, harder braking harder shifts all add up.
He said there are a few like me that do get 30 to 40% more from the touring tires than most.
10,000 is the shop avarage and thats right to the limt.

Re: Tyre Wear

I think possibly, Hobbit, in the spirit of science, you need to put brand new tires on your 08 and come across the pond and see how many miles it takes to wear them out. I have a feeling you would have lots of people to visit!!
