Here's an easy explanation of doing the clutch adjustment in a video.
ALWAYS adjust the clutch on a COLD motor otherwise you could have shifting problems as the motor warms up.

This is the clutch cable adjuster.

For a bit more input on clutch cable adjustment, refer to this page which is an older harley but the cable adjuster and free play still pertain to the newer models. Figures 2 and 3 are for an older bike.

Maintaining Your Clutch Cable

Just a tip here, it will be easier when doing the clutch adjustment to put the trans in 5th gear so the lock nut will be easier to loosen and tighten after you are done without it turning.
Turning the center clutch adjuster nut more then the 1/2 turn towards 3/4 of a turn will bring the clutch friction zone closer to the bar, but you don't want it too close to the bar because the result is incomplete plate separation and neutral will be hard to find.

Re: Clutch Adjustment Video

What basically tells you it's time to adjust the clutch? Common sense as far as not shifting or not be able to find neutral. But is there a looseness or a feel that tells you its' time to adjust the clutch before it gets to that point of not finding neutral or slipping starts.

If you pay attention to where the friction zone is on the handle, it will give you an indication of when it needs adjusting. The further out away from the bar it moves, the closer you are to an adjustment.

Re: Clutch Adjustment Video

I have a manual, but this video (and the subsequent comments) made it VERY easy to do. I had assumed that the clutch was supposed to feel the way it did and that nuetral was inherrently hard to find. Now I know better. Friction zone used to be less than a cm off the bar and neut was hard find. Not anymore. Thanks for taking the time to post this!!
