Easy Clutch Adjustment Method
3 Attachment(s) Sticky Thread   No new post Easy Clutch Adjustment Method - 883 days old
Here is an almost fool proof method for clutch adjustment. It takes the guesswork out of the "feel" for the adjuster. Once you have opened up the derby cover and are ready to proceed... 1)Collapse the adjuster on the cable sleeve all the way. 2)Pull the lever against the bar and hold it there with light force. 3)... IDS Drive System
1 Attachment(s) Sticky Thread   No new post IDS Drive System - 823 days old
Isolated Drive System Lots of talk about the 07 bikes with the transmission noises that sounds like clatter or as some put it "can of marbles". It happens in 5th and 6th gears on most bikes primarily baggers because of the fairings reflecting the noise back at the rider and weight of these bikes also compared to the smaller... Read more

False Neutral Light On
1 Attachment(s) Sticky Thread   No new post False Neutral Light On - 841 days old
If you are having a problem with the neutral light coming on when not in neutral, there has been an upgrade done with the switch itself. I had this problem after washing the bike. Water gets into the housing and causes the neutral light to come on through all the gears as it heats up when riding after a washing. The M1205... Read more

Removing Stripped Bolts From Derby Cover
Sticky Thread   No new post Removing Stripped Bolts From Derby Cover - 883 days old
This problem arises because most torx kits do not come with a #27 bit in them and a #25 is used by mistake. They must be purchased seperately. Easiest way to eliminate this problem is to use the #27 Torx bit to remove these fasteners, while many use a #25 by mistake, it fits sloppy and usually ends up striping the head of the bolt, but... Clutch Adjustment By The Book
Sticky Thread   No new post Clutch Adjustment By The Book - 873 days old
Clutch Adjustment Technique By The Book Let's go over the basics of clutch adjustment on late motorcycle models. Ideally, you want the motorcycle to be on a lift or stand. The procedure can be done on the kickstand but, some primary fluid may leak out. If no lift is available, a block of wood under the stand will help then. ... Read more

Clutch Cable Replacement
Clutch Cable Replacement - 883 days old
With the installation of new cables, there should be no need to adjust the clutch itself if the clutch was OK before hand. You need the 1/8 to 1/16 at the handle after you are done which is gotten by the adjustment in the cable itself. Really easy to do. Drain the trans fluid first so it doesn't get messy. The cable change requires... Read more

ATF In The Primary
ATF In The Primary - 9 days old
Good points posted by "67hat34c" about the use of ATF in a sportster trans/primary. The same would hold true for the primary in big twins too. Automatic transmissions need this thin fluid to operate the high pressure hydraulic systems. They do have gears and some like the Honda transmissions closely resemble a manual... Read more

Shift Arm Linkage
Shift Arm Linkage - 823 days old
Reading through some forums, one thing I see constantly is the stock shift rod ball ends breaking and coming apart mostly on baggers but it does happen on other models as well. I feel the reason it happens on baggers more frequently is because of the two shift pegs and the forces exerted on the rear one when riders apply more down... Read more

Finding Neutral
Finding Neutral - 61 days old
Many times it's posted that there is problems finding neutral. The biggest point that is never brought up about finding neutral is to do it before you are completely stopped. It will drop right in then. Adjusting the clutch properly and using a good synthetic gear lube like Spectro will make it drop in like it is supposed to. Also... Read more

Primary Torque
Primary Torque - 68 days old
Here's a few examples of the torque sequence for the primary covers. There's no substitute for a factory manual for the bike you own. Over tightening the bolts can lead to stripped inner primary bosses or a warped primary cover that will leak. This is the shorter touring and FXR models... Read more

E Z Pull Clutch (big twins)
E Z Pull Clutch (big twins) - 575 days old
Made by Burly I have used these units in a few bikes including my own in the past. The work well in reducing the clutch pull at the handle. I used a spring scale on an installation to see just how much they lightened the pull. The before and after was a noticable difference of the loss of 3-4 pounds pull on the lever end. It's...
