Re: Easy Clutch Adjustment Method
Hey glider will this technique work on a sportster that only has a spring loaded nut in the primary. So how much should I turn the adj. screw before I back it up a half turn. Its on a 2005 sportster 1200xl custom.

I was puzzled that there was no lock nut but instead an hexagonal washer with a hole with two flat sides (see pics) and a spring that is compressed by the derby cover to keep the washer in place. The flat sides, matching two flats on the screw prevent it to turn. Also, instead of a hex hole, the adjustment screw has a slot so you use a flat headed screwdriver to do the adjustment. I proceeded as advised for the orher models HD and after tightening to touch unscrewed 1/2 turn, tightened the cable adjustment with 1/16th to 1/8th play 0n the lever and, touch wood, it seems to work fine. |

Re: Easy Clutch Adjustment Method
If it's an adjustment issue, it should help but they mostly all clunk into gear to some degree. Try hesitating for a second or so after pulling the clutch in before shifting into gear.

Re: Easy Clutch Adjustment Method
They pretty much all clunk into first, the best thing I did to help quiet it some was Spectro Platinum Transmission Oil for the 6 speed gear boxes.

Re: Easy Clutch Adjustment Method
I love the clunk of the first gear engaging. It really feels great when the whole bike shudders as you release the handle. I wouldn't do whithout it.
