My 09 FLHT seems to be pretty quiet so maybe they did something in 09 that they aren't telling.

Hobbit, how do you like the gear ratios? I reckon HD got it pretty much spot on. First 5 a bit lower than my old 5 speed (03) and 6th brilliant above 90k (50mph??) Great usable touring ratios IMHO.

on the ultra i love the ratios there more or less spot on and it will when poked pull past 5K without much aggro, delivers the torque nicely and will pull my trailer happily, the Dyna is a different matter and could do with a little longer legs to help spread the torque

Re: Six Speed Transmission Problem

I am totally happy with my 6-speed. Riding is a little different now that i am not "searchin" for that next gear. With this one it seems as though i have more than six. There seems to be a gear for every speed. I do have a 1st gear whine that is noticeable, but nothing that bothers me to much. Just different!

Re: Six Speed Transmission Problem

I knew about the whine before I bought my bike, some are just a tad louder than other, I notice my first more than the fifth, but it's not too bad. Of course they fixed it on the 10's

The issue has really grown into a much bigger issue than it is the noise is not that lound and with a good gear lube it is all but gone.

Re: Six Speed Transmission Problem

Glad I saw this thread ... I've had my Ultra since Friday and it rained alot ... New bike curse. Yesterday I took her for a 200 mile run. 5th made the noise ... not all that loud, but sounded different from the other gears enough for me to take notice. She pulled fine and the RPM was constant so there was nothing wrong but the difference in sound. Was going to see the dealer about this ... Now I guess I'll just mention it when I'm next there. See what they say.

Emu

The best thing you can do for that trans noise is put Spectro platinum in it. They all make noise in first and fifth because of the helical gears in those positions. The Spectro will make it much better and it will shift better too.

After following the advice of Glider and the rest of you guys. I have a 09 Heritage and put the spectro and Mobile oil and added the TFI and I have NO issues with trans and most of the clunk is gone from my tranny. If you follow the advice of these guru's you can't go wrong Thanks guys.

Re: Six Speed Transmission Problem

Hard to beat a winning combination that has been tested and works.
