Hi, I have a 2000 ultra that i haven't had out on the road in 6 months- I start it every 2-3 weeks and let it warm up. Last time i heard a strange sound and when i found it i noticed the shifter shaft was comming out of the transmission- What holds it in? how do i fix this?

Are you talking about the shift arm that connects the shift linkage to the foot control or the shift linkage?

It seems to me that it would be very difficult for the shift shaft to come out since it has a large piece on the other end of it. It is installed from the opposite side of the tranny. Not to mention the primary being in the way. Possible with severe trauma I guess.

That was my thought Bodeen. If it moved at all the shaft and arm would only be able to move 3/8" inch or so before it contacted the inner primary case. I'm thinking it is probably the shift linkage rod.
