Drive Belt Replacement

I have a 2001 FLHT with a broken belt. I have worked on bikes before but never replaced a drive belt on a touring model. Is this too complicated?? Should it be done by dealership? Can I do this myself?? Please advise....

Re: Drive Belt Replacement

Not really hard to do. I would suggest getting a manual and reading about the procedure. If you are experienced at working on bikes you will have no problem.

It gets a bit involved. Being you have a 2001 FLT, here 9 pages of documented pics that will take you from start to finish on your bike. Only YOU can be the judge of whether you can do it or not.

Re: Drive Belt Replacement

Yes, I didn't see anything that complicated, but it does look time consuming. Will I need new primary gaskets?

Re: Drive Belt Replacement

The primary gaskets will need replacing both inner and outer. It's not that difficult but it is time consuming and some special tools are needed too.
