2006 lowrider how to remove outer and inner primary

I'm considering forward controls(HD) on my 2006 lowrider. I don't want to cut the shaft to the mid controls, how hard is it to do it the right way, removing the inner and outer primary covers. Someone told me that it easy after the outer cover is removed just loosen the two large nuts, on the driven shaft and the clutch pack. Is it THAT easy? Car savy, but cycle mechanically challenged, thanks.

Thanks for the responses, had heard of the hacksaw method, but would like to leave the mid control shifter in place and use the forwards for awhile before I cut them.
