Detachable tour pack for 08 Ultra?

I know I have seen other bikes besides the Ultra with detachable tour packs. I was thinking about one for my Ultra when just around town and without the wife. Anyone have any pictures or know if HD has this?

Re: Detachable tour pack for 08 Ultra?

I did this to my '04 Ultra. I just bought the detachable rack, docking points, and set it up.

Antennas: I bought an O'Reilly's rubber am/fm antenna and zip tied it under the radio in the fairing. I also modified the CB antenna to mount it in the fairing as well, but left it fill length and bent it around the inside of he fairing. If you don't use the CB, you can just eliminate it. This allowed me to snip the anntenna wires from the harness under the seat.

The speakers have a connection that can be pulled out of the spearker enclosures on the Tourpak and unplugged. (I assume these are the same on the '08). Under the liner in the tourPak is the connection to the lights. I disconnected these and coiled them under the seat. I only hooked them up for multiple day trips. Otherwise, I just flopped on the TP and away I went.

MAJOR NOTE: You have an '08, which I don't know how much room is under the seat for the coiled wiring harness. You may need to splice in a connector (I considered doing this too) to take the wiring out if there's not enough room to store it. You don't want to smash the wires and creat a short!

It can be done with a little ingenuity. Doesn't take much though. I was able to figure it out.

There you go...catching on to HD' marketing stategy...tweak here and there and you have a new model for those who are sitting on a fence.

BTW just a little cautionary note...when adding a tourpack remember not to overload it too much...yeah-yeah sound'in like a grandpa...but putting 20-30lbs higher up from center of gravity may cause headshake or rear end wallowing so think about a stabilizer if in long high speed sweepers you get that "funny handling feeling."

We go for long rides 10-14 days 2 up,put our travel bag and my computer in the tour pack, raingear and cooler on top and I have never had a problem, the only time it feels top heavy is when your holding the bike as your passenger is gatting on. HD does have a removeable kit for the 08 with antennae relocate kit, for 08 you don't have to relocate the lis. plate o7 down you do.

A detail I overlooked. I had a license plate bracket from a road king in the garage, so I cut off the section where the reflector would have been, redrilled the holes for the plate, and mounted it upside down. I had plenty of clearance. That said, you will have to find another bracket. If you get the kit Steve07 mentioned, it probably includes it. That kit is made for Classics, not Ultras. That means it has an antenna kit in it for AM/FM but not CB. I don't think it has anything for your wiring because the classics don't have lights on the Tour Pak.

Below is how my great '09 EGC looks with the rear "station-wagon" (tour pack) removed (via kit). I love it, for exactly the infered reason > now I got me my StreetGlide!!

Here's my '04 sans Tour Pak. I went to a '09 Street Glide too.

Re: Detachable tour pack for 08 Ultra?

glad I could help. I used a road king seat. When you take off the tour pak, the stock seat looks awfully bulky. I found one on ebay pretty cheap. If you use a RK seat, you'll need the cover for the front of the seat. I couldn't find a good deal on a Road Glide seat when I was doing it.

I have one left over. PM me if you're intersted.
