Re: Is this tire OK for a Ultra?

Here's a great place for tires. I have used them a couple of times. Great selection and low prices...

Here the link to there pricing for D402's

My only question to Dunlop is:

Why after all the advances in tire technology today, do we still use bias ply tires on our bikes instead of radial tires?

Each has it own advantgaes and disavantgaes depending on when and how it is used.
Two wheels are a lot different than 4.
Hd has one bike that has Radial rear and Bias front or the other way Around anyway they mix the two figure that one out.

Yeah, I got that Smitty...only in 1988 I think. Radials had every advantage except one, heavy load range due to softer side walls.

Suddenly everyone is using them nowdays, even heavyweight sport tourers got 'em. Thing is they only come in low 50-80 Series profiles and sizes for sidewall stiffness. So if you want radials you have to change your stock wheels, then whats the point. I suppose we have to wait another 20 years.

Re: Is this tire OK for a Ultra?

Thanks Smitty, I have used the D205's on my KAT...(it was originally equipped with bias ply and hard to fit 17" OEM rims, they work much better than bias ply OEM tires).

And of course you lucky bagger guys always get the good stuff first...I am just mad that trickle down took 20 years to get to you guys and may never see it in my life time on the more "pedestrian Sportster" as standard equipment...hey they got fuel injection...maybe technology infusion is speeding up?

the 402's have served me very well for some time .That does not mean I will not consider the Other options.
That why I ask Dunlop to send me more info.
As for EFI is great but so was my carb and the carb was a lot easyer to mess with.
My 96 Fb is carbed and still works every well.

I tracked down 3 riders I know that have or are running the Elite 3 on thier HD touring bikes.
1 thinks they are the greatest tire in the world
He is getting the same milage out of them I get with my 402?
The other two like them one said they take some getting use to he did not explain that the two are not getting any greater milage out of them.
One of these two has gone back to the 402's reason why change if it does not really do any thing for you and the 402's had served him well.
I have to take a good look at my front tire if it is getting with in 6 months or so of changer I may mount two Elite 3's on mine and give them a test.
I an due for a rear soon.
