SNY 3 is an ok engine oil not bad not the best not a true SNy there for not able to provide the protection of a true SNY. There are far better true SNY oils. any of witch are high quialty. Tranmission would you put gear oil in your engine? I think not then why try to get away with engine oil in gear box. Two different sets of gears 6 speed and 5 speed. Spectro Platium for 6 speeds is IMO best for both Redline Shock proof heavy is a great option of either one then you have other High quialty products that work very well M1 gear oil , royal purple ect. Any of witch are far better than SNY3. Primary for the most part thinking is and has been no sny in there HD F+. However new way of thinking new products Spectro and Redline make Lubes for the primary that are sny and they claim are prfect for primary now. THEY ARE MADE for primary special additives to protect the clutch. I am trying the redline in both my bikes in the primary now. I trust these two companys. Last reason if for no other not to use SNY3 is HUGO. If you need Hugo explained just ask. Nice bike enjoy your ride

Smitty I am curious about HUGO. The syn3 in my bike is 300 miles old is it serious enough to get it out now or next oil change? They did put HD formula in the tranny!
actually i'm not sure what they put in the tranny. I complained about it being hard to get in first gear and noisy when it did go in. They said they were going to put something a little thicker than syn3 to help with this. I think i'll do my own oil changing in the future. Last edited by Speed : Nov 16th, 2008 at 11:23 AM. HD befor He took over contracted Citco oil to made SNY3. Hugo took over Citco and ripp off the investors and so on and so on. I and many others refude to give our money to him. thats your call. SNY 3 oil. 1. is not a true sny oil 2. is an ok engine oil but no were near the best 3. no were near worth the sell price. The tranny thing in today world whats best does not always sell. Metric use the system of runing engine oil and tranmission together. It seems IMO that HD and others looked at a way to use the same products in all holes they decided that oil would work even if it was not the best. The decided the extra heat, shorter life and more noise was worth it. Many of us do not see it that way. We have proven that True SNY gear lubes such as Spectro and Redine, Quiet the tranmission, reduce heat and wear and just palin protect the bike better. Again your call try it in your s you will not switch back. The primary on Hd is basicly a chain and a wet clutch. here most any oil will do and most beleave that additives in engine oils are not the best for the clutch and that most SNY oils will be bad for the clutch. For that reason HD F+ is recommended by most. However Spectro and Redline now make a sny primary lube that they claimis better for the clutch. jury is still out on this, I am using Redlines product in both my bikes primary now. I will get back with you if my clutch fails. back to engine oil. ALL big VTWIN air cooled bikes run hot HD victroy they all do. Fact Ture 100% SNY engine oil stands up to heat far better than any standard oil. That in it's self is reason enought to use it. But theres more the oils lubes better and holds up longer. There are a few real good motorcycle engine oils on the market Spectro Platium ,redline, M1 vtwin even Amsoil all good quialty and will protect you bike better than SNY3. If you did your own service (EASY TO DO) you would notice the fuzzy on the drain plugs in all three holes, switch to true proper SNY oils and lube in the 3 hole and watch the fuzzy go away. This is something you can see with your own eyes. The HD service manual for your bike is 50-60 bucks armed with that a little time , a few basic tools and this link you can do most of your basic servcies yourself. Self Help Information and Tips - Harley Davidson Community The money you save will more than pay of the better lubes and still leave cash in your pocket. Any question you know were to find us.

Oldgeezer: No need to panic. At your next service, the fool proof combo is this: Mobile One V Twin full synthetic in your crank. Amosoil is as good but not available eveywhere like Mobil One is. Mobil One is at most Auto part stores making it your best choice. Use Spectro Tranny oil for 6 Speeds trannys. It is not everywhere but you only need it at services. I ordered 3 quarts, which will last me a long time since your change tranny fluids at 5K. It is specifically formulated for HD 6 speeds and is the best choice. When you use your last qt., order 3 more. No biggie. Use HD Primary oil. It is fine and is again your best choice. Don't make it complicated. Follow this advice and you will be doing the best for your ride for protection, and the best cooling combo out there. Ride safe. |
