Maybe this will help.

RPM's vs Speed 5 6 Speeds - Harley Davidson Community

If I'm reading it right then at 30 mph I should be about 2500 RPMs. There are several towns around here where 30 is the speed limit a few miles. It seems to me that the engine is running hard just to run 30 mph. Is this right and I just need to get used to it?

Confused

And it levels off so well right at 105. Road home from Lacrosse for the 105th so that seems like the right speed. If fact it was way to comfortable there.
But around here 75 will cost you heavy.
I must just have a strange Hd I do not have all the so called rattling in the gears and it runs down the state roads at 60 in 6th just fine.
And 65 in 6th is real smoth.
Now if i were running into a 20 mph head wind or pulling a grade I would not hold it in 6th at that speed.
The spectro gear lube did quiet the bit of gear noise it had and made N easy to find.
I have found no reason to need IDS.
In traffic I will drop th 5th at even higher speeds and stay there, but thats so if I need to move quickly I can
