Are these diosticks worth the money? Its hot out here in Nevada and I wiuld like to know what my engine oil temp is. I hope they are accurate with in a degree or two. I don't want to put one in the dash if this LCD in the fill hole will work. Any thoughts? Yea or Nay

My experience is yes, mine is accurate, at least on the cold end. Winters I keep my garage heated to 50*. I have checked the digital thermostat for the garage, the digital thermometer in my car and the digital dipstick, and all three read 50* at the same time. On the high end I have never tried to verify the dipstick, but it normally reads 200-220* and I have no reason to doubt those numbers. I have had mine since about a year after they came out.

I've owned the LED oil dipstick over three years, since they 1st came out.
I like 'em.

Push the button and it gives oil level and temp. I don't have to risk getting my hands burnt while checking oil level.
Just push the button it shows. It will also tell you if you have overfilled or need oil.

I have the Marlin's oil/head temp gauge in my fairing, replacing the "not so handy" air temp gauge.

Helpful on my run across the desert in July. The Marlin's gauge was handier than the LED dipstick because I could see what the oil temp was by simply looking at the dash.
The LED dipstick can only be read when stopped and off the bike.

Using both was a plus.

I had my oil changed before leaving CA and the LED dipstick told me I had an overfill. I used my turkey baster to drain enough to get back into the OK region.
Handy in that respect.
I think the shop forgot the oil bottles are Liter, not Quart! Liter bottles have more oil in them.

It is expensive ($150) but worth it. I do carry the stock dipstick, just in case someone would steal mine!

What model/brand of LED dipstick do you have? I did not realize any of them displayed the oil level.

Yes they do work & are accurate, but (1) there are riders who post problems w/them coming apart & (2) you have to stop to see temp. Personally, I thought the same w/dipstick temp gauge, but elected for fairing mount. It's a very easy install & you always have oil temp visibility. Good luck w/either choice.

I have read a large number of posts about problems with these things. Inaccuracies and inop. As I recall they are quite expensive. IMO if you think your oil temp. is an issue, put your money towards an oil cooler and use a quality synthetic. If you do not have a fueler on the bike get one such as the TFI. It will go a long way in cooling the operating temp of your bike. After that don't worry about it. One less thing to fiddle with and worry about while riding.

Thanks for the responce guys. I think I will try one and see how it works out.
But before I buy I want to know if it can be returned if I don't like it or it doesn't read correctly. One of the Casinos out here is going to pay for it, so it's free really. I do win at the machines once in awhile.

For my '07 Ultra.
There is a picture on the dipstick that shows your oil level.
Never have to take the dipstick out to check oil level.
Just push the button, shows oil temp and level at the same time.
Will also say if oil is too high or too low.

So here is my question....why get one? The oil reading will worry you and there is nothing you can do, if you stop, when it reads a high temp,there is no air flow. Get a good oil cooler and keep it clean and go. Never had this stuff for years and things still worked, ha look at all the old VWs,

I think, as with most gauges, it gives you a baseline so you might detect a problem early on. JMO.
