2011 Road Glide Ultra Issues

New to Forum, just traded my 07' RKC on a new FLTRU, it's a great ride! That said, twice in the last 2 wks. (2500 mi.) Sheís almost got me stranded with no throttle control (limp home mode). After one trip to the dealer, who said it had no codes, (so we canít fix it) today I checked it myself after a 200+ mi. ride with another check engine light @ a Gas Station! Found DTC P1511 & P2101, Cleared the codes & reset the ECM. Sorry about the long dibble, my question is, is it possible that Iím causing this buy cancelling the Cruise by rolling the throttle up, as I did on my 07' RKC? Thanks

Here:

P1511
Throttle actuator limited power management mode
91
6.23 DTC P1510,P1511,P1512

P2101
Throttle actuator control motor circuit - range error
47
6.27 DTC P2100,P2101,P2102,P2103

Talk to the Dealership. See if you can recreate the problem that way by cancelling the cruise rolling off the throttle. You could also get the Owners Manual out and see what it says!!

TQ

Re: 2011 Road Glide Ultra Issues

Thanks TQ,
According to Ownerís Manual, it shouldnít be a problem disengaging Cruise by rolling off, I'm thinking the problem didnít start until I activated the Engine Heat Management sys (by turning the Ign on, holding the throttle full closed, and waiting until the Cruise Control lamp to go green) to check it out, not sure. I usually put 150-200 mi. a day on it, so Iíll be trying to replicate the conditions. I havenít been able to find 11' Service and Electrical manuals yet, but it's just a matter of time. Thanks for the DTC's, Iíve got the full set for 10'. Guess Iím just annoyed with the dealer saying there were no codes set , so they didnít have any ideas what the problem could be. Just looking around, There seems to be a lot of Throttle related issues with the new models, but I personally like the ETC System. Iíve always done my own work and donít expect this to be any different, other than this small problem, itís a great ride!
Thanks Again,
Duanne

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't rolling forward on the throttle one of the accepted ways to deactivate the cruise control? I do that all the time on my 2010 FLHTK if I'm on cruise and need to deactivate quickly.

Re: 2011 Road Glide Ultra Issues

I've also deactivated by rolling forward all the time, (Manual states it's acceptable) yesterday on a big ride thru northern Arkansas, I met some riders who were told by their Dealer to never roll forward? I'm stopping by the Dealers this morning to discuss the problem, Iím also thinking getting caught in some major rain storms isnít helping, probably going to end up going thru all the Electrical connections cleaning & sealing. Both TPS sensors have to go down for the system to go into "limp home", Very slim chance of that happening without having reduced performance or codes set.

Re: 2011 Road Glide Ultra Issues

Just got back from the Dealer, (armed with DTC P1511 & P210) had a nice discussion with the Service Manager and Senior Tech. Theyíve scheduled an ECM Specialist and 1 full day of shop time (with loaner) for this Wednesday to dive into this issue. Will post the results.

Just from memory, isn't the TPS a unit new this year?

Sorry to hear of the problems your having with the new ride. Hope the dealer gets you ironed out soon.

Just wondered what you find about ETC (throttle by wire) that is positive. I myself have TBW on my cage and can't seem to find anything I like about it. I have not had any issues with it as far as break downs, but just don't like the idea of not having direct control of my throttle body. It will reduce emissions but other than that what is the upside looking at it as a customer of the product, not the manufacture of the product?

Throttle by wire is a tricky animal in most cages, they cant stand any kind of solvent cleaner in them, it ruins the sensors dont know how HD will hold up to this but I would start asking questions now JMO
