Question electrical problems

question:
will a bad voltage regulator / stator make the bike backfire and sputter?
the bike is acting like is not getting enough fuel.

Did that solve the problem? If not, run through this to check out the charging system:

Testing The Charging System - Harley Davidson Community (Testing The Charging System)

If the charging system checks out, but you still have the symptoms you originally described, check this out:

Engine Dies And Runs In Spurts - Harley Davidson Community (Engine Dies And Runs In Spurts)
