Decision made...pipes ordered.

After MUCH research and listening, and going to any and every site I could on which pipe I should get I finally ordered them yesterday.

Vance & Hines Monster Ovals/Black with Chrome tip. For the wife's 883L a set of Rineharts/Chrome with Black tip.

Now, from what I have understood I can get away without any fuel management on both bikes and add it later, at that time go ahead and add a high performance air filter. ?

the 09's will compensate a enough to keep the ECM and 14.6/14.7 but a little fuel woould not hurt but if you do fit the air cleaner then yes fit the fueler

when you change your exhaust you dont have to do anything else to the bike, because its not changing anything really other than the air leaving the motor, if you change to a different air filter like the stage one kit or something you will have to take your bike to the dealership and have a stage one download done on it.

Cool. Same with the sporty too I assume? It is also an 09. Plan is to put these bad boys on, ride for a while, then upgrade to a high flow air filter and fuel manager.

download only returns the motor to stock settings prior to the upgrades, to get the best from the stage1 fit a fueler - the TFI is cheap and works, PCV/PCIII starts to up the ante and then you get the ECM mappers TTS Mastertune, Screamin eagle, then you start getting into the exotics the self tuning stuff from Zippers and DTT

Even a dummy like me, when it comes to the tech end of these rides, knows there's more to an exhaust pipe's effects than the sound it makes!

Exhaust kits change a number or factors to what's happening back where the "air" is coming from!

I'll leave the rest for Glider and The Boys to explain....!

a download does not return the motor to stock settings, and if those are the only mods you have done dont waste your time or your money with any type of fuel management. i have had countless bikes in our shop because they (edit) out all the time, if you do decide to use one, use the HD Fuel Pack, they work way better than and of Power Commanders products. I work for Harley and as a Technician and in my experiences the bikes run great with exhaust air cleaner and stage one kit, if these are just your average bikes i would leave it at that. good luck!

you are right they do affect other aspects but they dont require any other action if you are just putting on exhaust. trust me i do this for a living for Harley Davidson, so no disrespect to glider or any other member but i dont need them to explain it to me.

even the SE pro tuner returns the ECM to 14.6/14.7 closed loop setting and this is for a 103 upgrade with cams.
the difference is that unlike the downloads from the digi tech that only dealers can flash to the ECM the SE tunner allows you to play and move the AFR and VE settings as well as Bias settings for the 02 sensors and many other settings.
before you ask i have all the SE downloads a dealer will have on the Digital tech as they come with the software for the SE tuner, the STG1 down load returns the ECM to EPA compliant settings - it has to.
the only benefit which is not really a benefit on stg1 motor is it ups the RPM limit to 6200rpm from 5500.
My Dyna runs 90HP and 120 Ft/lbs and the limiting factor is the throttle body and the weak injectors. and the mapping in the ECM even the SE tuner is limitied and does not allow you to really alter the base map.

You sure you're not getting a kickback to convince us all to only buy Harley stuff for our bikes? First the oil, now the fuel tuner!
