In addition to new pipes...what else do I need?

I know I need more than just pipes...I am looking at Monster Ovals (not decided yet, but they still are #1). What else do I/should I get in addition.

I plan on buying all the stuff, then taking it to HD to have them install it all. And, no, unfortunately I do not have the tools nor the know how to try and do this all by myself. I would gladly do it myself if I had an experience tool hand assisting me.

Thanks...

If you want to do the package, you need the slip ons of choice , intake stage 1 and some added fuel instead of a download from the dealer.

No reason you can't do it yourself if you can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I'd say get "the download" from the dealer. It'll sure help to provide a better base to work from. This coming from the understanding he don't want to do it himself and wants "uncomplicated".

So that would be the slip ons of choice, plus something like the V&H Fuel Pack to go with, or is a 3rd thing needed?

Stage 1 intake like the Screamin' Eagle kit from the dealer or the likes. I would go towards the TFI over the fuel pack so there's no maps to deal with. Much easier to install and set up.

EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection

There's more here on the TFI including a discount link...

Re: In addition to new pipes...what else do I need?

There is nothing you need your HD is fine the way Hd built it.
Now if you WANT to play a good stage 1 is a nice Mod.
Most cost effective and easiest is.
1. A set of slipons you like the look and or sound of
2. An Air Cleaner that allows some more flow. You can change to a higher flow filter , go to a higher flow AC houseing like the SE or the SE heavy Breather 2 type work the same looks and fit is different, or go with some aftermarket one designed to increase air flow.
3. Make up your mind on fuel.
1. Do nothing pipes and in take change that is not too extreme bike can adjust on an 09. Down side you gain nothing.
2. Do HD down load 50 to 150 bucks. Brings bike back to full stock air to fuel and gives you a few wothless rpms, Cheap easy works you gain little.
3. TFI fuel manager about 250 you can do it all yourself no dyno time no extras needed great system.
4. Go with a Poweer commander type fuel manager cost more bit hard to set up.
More flexable for extreme mods. MAY end up with dyno time needed in extreme
case.
5. Back to HD for a SERT very good. Exspensive custom map for your bike , problem is any change you pay again.
Adding"manageing" the fuel with a good system like TFI or PC will allow you to get the full effect of the exhaust and intake mods. Bike will have a bit more kick roll on stronger and finish stronger. There is a small amount of limited cooling gain from the added fuel also.

Most of the work for a STAGE 1 requires nothing special to do the work. Basic tools.
A little home work and research here and you could do the stage 1 and install a TFI your self. This is just a little above caveman stuff.
Take your time pick pipes you are sure you will like. lot of nice option on AC your pockets and taste will decide whats the right one for you.
Good luck any question on how to install any of this just yell.

Re: In addition to new pipes...what else do I need?

Cool. So I can:

1) get the pipes and do nothing except maybe get a high flow air filter, keep stock housing.

2) get pipes, change housing for high flow filter, do the fuel manager

3) get pipes, filter, take to HD for a down load.

Yep, only if you do #1 get some fuel manager because doing both pipes AND a/c will lean out mixture possibly beyond the existing ECM/EFI system is able to compensate making #2 (preferred) or #3 to get A/F mixture back to manageable "lean" operating mode.

If you change the pipes only, the standard airbox/filter provides enough air flow restriction to still keep the OEM settings able to compensate.

Re: In addition to new pipes...what else do I need?

Ok...sorry to ask so many questions. You are saying I can just do the pipes, no high flow or fuel manager...?

What if I did the pipes, fuel manager and that's it? I understand that if I go with Monster Ovals it will lean the bike out more, but 09's can compensate some, where it's maybe 50/50 on a fuel manager being needed.

Not on an 09 or newer it will put it back to stock as long as you do not to extreme such as stright pipe and SE heavy breather
However you will get NO gain from your mods other than looks
anything older spot on
