Oil filter housing pipe fittings

There are two pipe plugs in the side of my oil filter housing. (09 Road King) My son has the same fittings on his 08 Dyna.

I looked through my service manual and found the plugs pictured but no description of what they are for. Is this supposed to be a way to hook up an oil cooler? If so, no oil cooler that I've found seems to use them.

Do not use these plugs!

These are machine holes for boring the oil passages in the housing. If you use them for a cooler, it would bypass the filter.

Thanks biglew. That's exactly what I was afraid of.
