No, you have to wipe it all off and "polish" it off with a clean rag, although you can't see the wax it is there and beads the water off really well.
 
I always use Pledge. It works really well. Try it, you won't be dissatisfied, honest. And if you somehow carelessly sprayed some on your fairing, so what! Now you can get a refresher wax on your fairing too! :p
 
And if you don't look through the shield, then why do you need to keep the water off of it?

Are you looking through the windshield? I'd cut it down an inch or two below your line of sight.

The others have good suggestions that will help with water repelling......
 
I use the wifes cream rinse, works well to bead water and against fog. Hockey players have used it on visors for years. Put small amount on clean damp cloth, apply then buff.
