A friend of mine tried doing this to his Yamaha, and did it wrong... luckily enough he only popped a fuse.
It's really not all that complicated, but you need to make sure you attach the + to the battery and - to the frame. Most new cars are like this. They want you to hook the + to the battery post, and - to the engine hoist bracket for example.
