what is a chopper to you?

Yep, you CHOP everything that is unnecessary to get you down the road. There's no such thing as a "modern chopper". If it aint chopped, it aint a chopper.

Thanks guy's I got to agree. A chopper is a bike that has everything that is not needed to run removed. A low budget operation. Done by you in a garage. Of course the front is racked, the rear is dropped. shocks traded for struts(solid) or the frame modified into a hardtail. Basiclly a creation of your own. Then rode with pride.:D

Zoo-man got it right...chopper was style change made with the minimalist attitude...if not necessary remove it or lighten it for performance and personal taste. Making it fancy and paint came later, when bike builders finished with the cutting torch and said why does it have to look "bad" to be good? The latter reversed in translation in modern times!:D

How about this?:D

To my mind a chopper is a bike that you have "chopped" off all the useless junk and "chopped" the frame up and remade it to suit your personality, or your mood.

Back in the day, it didn't much matter if it was a Harley, a Honda or anything in between. You built it yourself and rode the wheels off it. Today too many times it turns out to be a bike that you paid too much for to ride too little.

Oh it mattered.. yea it mattered. There was Harley & there were the rest. Didn't matter if it was chopped or not, if it wasn't a Harley it wasn't a Chopper. It would have been a "Honda chopper".. but that would have been kinda silly cause 'back in the day' there weren't any hondas with more than 305cc. The Brits had some nice bikes & some were chopped but they weren't Choppers.
