what engine has most trouble?

was wondering what motor is more troublesom. evo or twin cam.

The Evo was touted as being oil leak free, compared to the shovel head and for the most part it was, later in life the MOCO took short cuts on the cases and studs and we all know the stories on the bearing failures. Along comes the twin Cam and a whole new set of problems later worked out but on going:s R & d will improve it

They each have their problems that are common to each engine. Tensioners, base gaskets, bearings, cranks, head gaskets, etc and the list goes on.

The twin cam engine was touted as having one million miles of testing before it was released :lolrolling

Guess they didn't see the weak areas.

Million miles of testing can mean a lot of things...during war time 100% testing went out the window and AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) statistical testing was introduced...balancing "less than 100% full accepatance test" balanced with risk, time and delivery...verses a statistical calculation based on failure rate verses # of units tested, verses derating factors of operating components at less than 100% of their maximum rating...:bigsmiley30: Yeah Yeah complex formulas were developed and the discipline of statisical analysis was born. You will see industries develop all the time this way based on need. Look at the EPA and whole industry developed for pollution control, be it noise, smog and such and how each manufacturing sector deals, be it consumer, commercial, industrial or military designs. :bigsmiley18: the devil is in the details.

65,000 miles on my Evo and she is a strong as the day she rolled off the lot, only thing ever needed repair was a nut fell off the shifter internally at about 60,000.

HD20-50 every 3000 miles, all fuilds dranied and replaced each fall before storage.

That is awesome. What do you use for crankcase oil because it sounds like a winner.

I use standard 20/50 Harley oil. Regular oil changes. Just sit with it while having your Sat morning coffee before you head out for a ride and listen to it
:D
