I'd say the esp is worth the money if you're like me and log in at least 20k a year. Some thing is bound to break. Mine just went in last week (2010 Limited) and had a new stator and compensating sprocket replaced with a 2014 SE upgrade along with a few other small parts. That alone almost paid for the esp.

Same issue here. I had a '94 RK that the VR went out on, no warning. The problem was it also burned up the stator which Harley said was common. No warranty. Then on my '06 RK friends told me my headlight was dim, shortly after Harley had a SB on the VR's and mine was replaced under warranty. I now have a '12 RGC but late year. No issues that I can see but after getting bit twice I'm a little gun shy.
