vin number blues

Im having a hard time figuring out my full vin. on my motor i know 4a stands for XLCH andh5 stands for 1975 but i cant seem to find what the middle numbers stand for they are (28696) can someone PLEASE help me so that i can order parts without playing any guessing games?:eam

Good site I keep that one in my favs , Not sure what parts you are looking for but 75 XLCH first year left side shift for the Iron head 1000, hitachie stater motor not prestolite, other than that 71-78 parts should and some FX parts also fit 79 is a bike all its own, 70 down shorter frame stlye and all the obvious that comes in the XL900s
