Trip to Florida

Well .. mine pales in comparison to Mad Dog's .. but I left Saturday
morning from Nebraska heading for Miami. From there I'm picking up
my girlfriend .. then off to Key West for a couple days. I'm hoping
the weather is rideable so we can take the bike to KW. Otherwise
we'll just go in the car. She's a newbie to riding on the back .. so while
rain and rainsuits isn't a big deal to me .. I don't think it would be very
much fun for her.

Saturday I went from Lincoln to Jonesboro, AR. Down through Missouri thru
Springfield and then to Joneboro. Was really a nice ride .. especially the
twisties in northern Arkansas. Was extremely hot though .. and pretty much
wore me down by the time I got there. 590 miles or so.

Today started out at 5am .. like yesterday. Down thru Memphis .. Birmingham ..
Montgomery .. Dothan to I-10 .. and then on to Tallahassee where I sit tonight. A little over 600 miles. As soon as I got here and got the bike checked over for tomorrow and covered it started raining like crazy. I'm hoping tomorrow holds off on the rain so I can get to Miami without having to slow down.

I'm not as good of a photographer and narrator as Mad Dog .. but I did shoot a few while riding. Nothing along the way that I stopped to see .. just kept on riding. I'll see if I can figure out how to post some.

I live about 2 hours from Tallahassee and tonight the storms have come from that direction. Tomorrow there is a 30% chance of rain in the northcentral part of Fl. I don't know which direction you are heading tomorrow but the rain has been pretty much along the I75 corridor down to Ocala for the past 3 or 4 days. You might have better luck getting over to I95 and stright down the coast. Good luck with your trip and no matter how you go enjoy our state. Your next trip down you might try the left coast as there are some great riding roads and great seafood resturants. Hope to see you some time. Ride safe.

Agree with Don, I 95 is a straight shot, tho I would hit the toll road at Boynton Beach to avoid the stop and go traffic thru Miami just my way of riding to the Keys, it will be hot but once you are in the Keys you have the nice breeze to cool you wear a lot of sun block u v high at 10 every day Good Riding:s

+3 we have not had as much rain the last few days over here on the east coast as the folks along I75, The rain we've had has been short lived but strong at times. News said rain chances for us is going down.

Well .. the weather held up for me coming down to Miami and so far no
rain today. Was humid and foggy when I left Tallahassee at 4:45 am but
no rain. I went down 75 to the Turnpike south of Ocala and just stayed
on that practically all the way to her house. I've been hanging out down
here for the last 14 yrs .. so have covered a lot of the state. We usually take the Turnpike when we go to Disney. I want to retire to the area around Avon Park or Sebring in 3 or 4 years. Most of the time I've taken the airlines down.
Once I drove down. And once I flew my plane down. I had to ride the Harley down to round it out .. haha.

Tomorrow we'll be off to Key West. I hope the weather holds up in the morning
so we can ride down.

Overall it was a good ride down and I got to see some places I hadn't before.
Would have been nice if it hadn't been up around 100 all the time.

Well .. actually it's usually hotter here in Nebraska in the summer than
in Florida. I go to FL to cool off. That pretty well held on this trip ..
was extremely hot thru the south and then got more tolerable as I
got further into FL.

I-75 and the Turnpike is great if want to fly low and get there in a hurry .. If want to catch some scenery on the way back up might try US 27 gets a little traffic in a few spots but is a great run through Florida..

Last summer we took 27 up to Tampa instead of the freeway. Was a
nice drive. This time I just wanted to get there so I took the turnpike.

Well .. got back to Nebraska on Sunday. Took the super slab almost
all the way .. up thru Orlando ... Atlanta ... Chattanooga .. Nashville ..
Paducah .. St Louis .. KC. When I got to Paducah .. I took the two
lane scenic route over into Missouri. Hiway 62. It's a nice ride thru
the countryside.

Sorry I haven't done well at posting pics along the way. I'll try to
get some put up when I get caught up. Key West was nice ..
as usual. Nice ride down there thru the Keys.

Heat and T-Storms was the only bad parts of the trip. Had to break out the
rain suit a couple times.
