Funny this post should come up, I had this happen last weekend. We were 2.5 hours from home in Gettysburg PA. Noticed something that appeared to be a tumping noise out of rear. Stopped at rest are noticed tire was low. Decided to hit next rest area and air up and fininsh the last 25 miles of trip, then hit HD dealer and have it looked at. NOT. A truck driver let me use a air hose. Put air in tire to proper air pressure. The wife jumped back on and it still sounded like a loud loud thud. Park bike called Harley Road asstistance, bike problem with this. FInally after 3 hours of being stranded Appalachain HD picked us up. After pulling the tire off they brought it out for us to see, we had picked up a nail and had some hard core thread seperation along with sidewall bludging out. They explained that this was why they did not plug/patch tires. orgot to say this was a rear tire and it was purchased in June before we went to Laconia NH and had a fe thousand miles on it.
