Tinnitus..serious trouble...need advice!

When you mentioned that your tinnitus problem started like someone turned a switch, a thought occurred to me. Have you thought of seeing a chiropractor? I have had tinnitus for years and have tried all the potions and elixirs that are claimed to help with poor results. A few months ago I was having my lower back adjusted from an old injury and the doc asked if I had any hearing problems as she found that my neck was out a bit. I said I did and she cracked my neck and loosened it up. I have to say I was amazed at the improvement I have had the ringing is much lower in volume at worse and almost non existent much of the time now.

I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but worth a try.

Another one who also has had it for quite some time. It does come a go (or so it seems). You just get used to it!! ALWAYS ride with earplugs..it will keep it from getting worse.

This may seem like a silly question, but do you take a lot of aspirin? excessive aspirin consumption can lead to tinnitus. I'm surprised I don't have it, with the last 25 years or so standing in front of a cranked Fender amp onstage, then riding with a beany. Not to mention the ol' lady's NAGGING! (That'd make you WISH you had it!)

Hi, and once again, thanks to all for your support and tips. Things like different type of plugs, those custom ones that were mentioned, asprin, minerals, helmet types, the bonecracker and the rest are all good things to know and try. I've been to the Doc twice to rule out the easy stuff, no infections, ears clean, he said that quite often it's stress and/or sinus troubles. Never had sinus issues and I'm under no known stress, certainly less than other times of my life. Tomorrow I finish off some dental work and Monday I start seeing an ENT specialist.

It's strange to me, Sunday it went away all afternoon, came back that night and all day Monday. Tuesday morning was good except I could not hear well, today noise until I came home from work, had a beer and took an hour nap-woke up absolutely clear and no noise..Just can't put my finger on what if anything triggers it.

Here is a good place to get hearing protection, large selection and decent prices. When I order it get here in a couple days.
Ear Plugs, ear phones and white noise machines for everyone, Earplugs for Musicians and Swimming!

I could use some ideas on a good 3/4 and a full face helmet, brands and where to get...

Thanks Again
Doug

I have had tinnitus for over 20 years. I rode a Sportster in the 70's and fueled Aircraft at Memphis international, I served in the Marines.

Go to a Ear doctor.

Tinnitus can be caused from anything from wax in the ear canal to ear trama. Exposure to loud noise is the number one.

You can imagine the cochlear hair cells as a field of wheat. Damage is like mowing that field. Only they don't grow back. Cochlear hair cells once they are damaged that's it.

When you finally damage enough of them, Do you get the idea?

You don't have to stop riding. Just protect your ears.

I have had this same problem for a couple of years. I was diagnosed as Meniers disease. I take daily medicine, drastically limit salt, and wear good ear protection whenever mowing, riding my motorcycle, shooting, etc. It has not gotten any worse and I still ride, shoot and take care of the yard. The ringing comes and goes, but the fullness in the ear stays all the time. Good luck.

I use these same plugs. They seem to work well.

yes, have the ringing as well as others have stated. Most times I'm not aware of it, while other times I seem to really hone it on it. Yes, it is aggravating.

These type plugs, to me, are like wearing a stethoscope. Just rubbing the connecting cord in between your fingers, I can hear the noise transmitted along the cord directly into my ears via the plugs, when inserted. And wind noise has the same amplification effect wearing these type plugs.

I find the foam type plugs to be the best. One thing you need to do is before inserting, pull on the top part of your ear with your other hand to open up your ear canal, and then insert. Hold them for about 5sec while they expand. These things for me knock down the noise so much, that at times I'm probably removing too much ambient noise. But I find the foam plugs to work remarkably well in knocking down the noise level.
I just remove the cord and eliminate that problem.

Have had it for years. While on the bike I wear either my full face or ear plugs with my skull cap. Mine was caused by too many years next to figher/bomber aircraft.
