tried to install chrome switch housings and had to scrap project......does anyone know how to remove the C-clips that hold the cables in the switch housing??????

You don't need to remove those clips to remove the cables.

They compress as you pull on the cable to remove them.

Sometimes one needs to reach in with a small screw driver to help them compress as you pull to remove the cable.

Once in a while a small shot of wd40 or a drop of light oil to give a little lube and help with the compression of the ring.

+1 above. I think my service manual says to use a "sharp tug" to get the cables out. If for some reason you lose or destroy one of the clips, safety wire can be used to make a new one.

You can also get the retaining ring from HD. Idle cable retaining ring is P/N 11271, and the throttle cable retaining ring is P/N 11272.
